The 20% Project

Hello! Though technically I believe my first blog post is supposed to be my Proposal/Action Plan, I am first going to address a few choice guidelines in our 20% Project Idea Sheet.
Based on my own personal understanding, the 20% Project is a constant endeavor which requires work, cognitive effort, and a distinguishable purpose in mind. The project can be anything from tutoring middle-schoolers, to building a secret organization of psychopathic extremists--no, that's not right. Perhaps volunteering in community service, or even pursuing an existing interest or passion?          The point of the assignment is to create something that can benefit either a single person or society at large. The expectation is to challenge oneself to do something they would not normally do in the event of their English final being a simple written exam.
     Now, for my proposal.
The goal for my 20% Project this year is to sew or knit various objects--sock puppets, galore--that might perhaps lift the heart of someone going through hard times. At the end of the year, when I feel I have amassed a sufficient amount of... these objects, I will box them up and ship them to the UC Davis Children's Hospital. I have plans to contact administrations and inform them of my scheme, plans which I will put into motion when perhaps the office in question is in fact open.
I have also found myself a mentor, though the exact details on that are confidential until my next blog post. She is a family friend of mine who has ample experience in sewing, knitting, and the like. She will be guiding me through my project, but not facilitating it. She will also be providing some materials.
I believe that this will be a worthwhile project for many reasons. To begin, I will be able to increase my knowledge and skill in an area with which I previously boasted minimal experience. I believe sewing is a profusely useful and practical skill to have, as well as a productive hobby.
As for equipment and expenses, there will be very little that I myself will have to pay for. I already have in my possession a sewing machine, and as I previously stated, my mentor can provide a sufficient amount of fabric. If there are any changes, I will make my own changes accordingly.
I have high expectations for this project, and am very excited to get started, despite my initial dilatoriness. My thanks for suffering through this entire post, and see you next time!
